ARTIST STATEMENT

The need to create has been part of mankind’s development since prehistory man picked up a burnt stick and made a mark on the wall of a cave some thirty thousand years ago. We are all born with the desire to create, most by adulthood loose that desire to create, but for some of us it becomes a lifelong journey. For me art has a purpose which is to contribute something which is aesthetically pleasing to humanity. It maybe a deep message, or evoke feelings and emotions, or it may be as simple as to bring a quite moment into someone’s life. When I pick up a stick of charcoal, or the paintbrush, or carve wood, or cut glass I am following the “Art Spirit”, which so many have followed before me. To me this makes the creation process and it’s product a universal language like music a form of communication, without boundaries. I create because that is what I am meant to do.

There are three areas that occupy my time and energies. The first is that of creating works of my own ideas and concepts for both individual work and commission. The challenge becomes the journey whose destination is not clear. The second is that of restoration which has it’s own challenges and rewards. I as a member of this vast and complex society that we call mankind have an obligation to maintain that which has created our artistic heritage. The third is academic; I owe it to future generation to share my experience and knowledge with those willing to take on the future challenges, to be a guide on journey’s to come. As for my own journey, each day points to new path and a distant horizon.
I hope this site gives you a sampling of my world, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
